TNM Remote Monitoring System

After a successful pilot program, iMoSyS has recently developed and deployed a bespoke Remote Monitoring System for TNM, Malawi's premier telecommunications company. In order to serve the provider's operations in uninterrupted transmission, the RMS is deployed in 3 tiers:

Power Management System
The RMS displays analytics for each tower integrated in the system; providing data such as presence or absence of mains power, battery bank voltage, and the present state of the diesel generator at each site, including it's fuel level, runtime hours and duration until maintenance is required.
Furthermore, with the integration of intelligent programmable logic controller at each site, iMoSyS has been able to achieve automatic power state, i.e. if the grid should fail, then the tower begins to draw power from the the battery bank until a minimum voltage threshold is reached, only then does the generator kick in, significantly cutting down the need for diesel. Not only is the manual aspect removed by this system, it is cost effective and environmentally friendly too.

Fuel Management
A comprehensive dashboard displaying the volume of fuel in the company's reservoir tanks, within the diesel generators at every site, and in each bowser that ferries fuel from the main tanks to the sites.
These analytics can be exported directly from the RMS into a spreadsheet for inventory management and quick identification of discrepancies, promoting accountability and deterring theft.

Environment Monitoring
Through the use of state of the art sensor technology, iMoSyS has been able to monitor and protect the highly sensitive server rooms at TNM data centers around the country. Temperature sensors make sure the rooms remain cool for optimum operation of the servers, working in tandem with humidity sensors and leakage sensors for the air handling units to ensure there is no moisture in the surrounding.
Motion sensors also alert the responsible persons if there unauthorized presence or activity in the server rooms

Water System Management

iMoSyS works in Water Systems Management to develop novel, robust, practical techniques and tools to optimize efficiency and customer service, through dynamic control or Water Systems iMoSyS brings new understanding of how engineering design, planning and management of complex water systems can be improved by creating a visual analytics optimisation approach that will integrate human expertise, IT infrastructure (cloud/parallel computing) and state-of-the-art optimisation techniques to develop highly optimal, engineering intuitive solutions for the water industry in Malawi and across the globe.

  • iTap Prepaid Water kiosk

    The iTap is an Automated Water Vending Machine that dispenses potable water.
    It can be installed in low income or rural communities which do not have access to clean and pure drinking water.
    iTap works like any regular bank ATM, the only difference is that it provides water instead of money.

    COVID-19 PPE fabrication

    In the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic, iMoSyS in collaboration with Cambridge Africa mobilized it's resources and began digital fabrication of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the form of 3-D printed face masks with adjustable N-95 air filters as well laser cut face shields for donation to frontline health workers. This is in line with our commitment to using technology in providing solutions with the greatest social impact.

    Partnership with MAIIC

    The first donation was done in partnership with Malawi Agriculture & Industrial Investments Corporatioin (MAIIC), a seal of confidence in young innovators in the country and their abilities to manufacture locally, at a time when imports can be relied on and the situation demands creativity and resourcefulness.

    Cambridge-Africa is a University programme that supports African researchers and promotes mutually beneficial collaborations. Efforts by iMoSyS to produce and supply PPE were fortified with their backing.

    EHEALTH works

    iMoSyS works in eHealth to improve Health Care delivery in Malawi. iMoSyS seeks to transform health care practices and work flows through computerized information and decision-making systems that facilitate and coordinate the care of patients in Malawi.

    Automatic sms Alerts/Notifications to improve efficiency on notification of laboratory test results and/or next appointment dates.

    SMS generation for new patients to alert them on laboratory results. The same is also recommended for existing patients where an SMS will be automatically sent to remind the patient on the patient’s next appointment for medication or follow-up sputum sample.

    Modification of current TB system

    iMoSyS has enhanced the current system to enable tracking of the flow of TB samples from the community level up to point of treatment initiation.

    Tracking of samples to facilitate reporting for TB patients

    Scanning of samples is achieved by using an android based mobile phone or tablet which has a built-in camera.

    Smart Irrigation Systems Management

    Recently there has been an increase of awareness in the importance of conserving water. By adding intelligence to irrigation systems can assist in saving time and money. In this case, field irrigation can only be activated according to the soil moisture which is adequate for the crop. Additionally the system can further be programmed to run at night when the evaporation is low, and in times of water restrictions. iMoSyS has several innovative approaches that easily give farmers the opportunity to adopt these solutions at low cost. A practical demonstration will be based from deployment in several farms across Malawi.

    Benefits of Irrigation System

        The system can be remotely triggered using an app or SMS without traveling to the fields and get notifications on moisture content and status of the sprinklers.

        No money or water wasted. Everything is timed, programmed and every drop of water is used only when it is needed.

        Moisture content can be monitored and controlled within specifications required by the plants which is ideal for fast and health growth

        With smart irrigation, only areas needing water are the ones that receive water thereby reducing the amount of weeds appealing across the field.
